Winter is coming……and we are encouraged to stay indoors and ‘hibernate’ as the world deals with the new reality of COVID-19. This inevitably means a slower pace of life where our ‘home’ becomes our ‘haven’.

We surround ourselves with things which nurture us and create an atmosphere of warmth and cosiness. Rugs, throws and cushions in deep rich colours like ochre, olive, terracotta and even deep red work well in colder months. Textures of mohair and wool are both luxurious and tactile.

In this way your home can reflect the changing seasons. I have a friend who moves her sofa closer to the fireplace in winter. You might try re-arranging your furniture to capture the warm patches of winter sun streaming through your windows.

You could swap a rug from a bedroom into the living room if it adds more warmth and colour. Dim the lighting, burn more candles, enjoy some hot chocolate or better still some mulled wine in front of the fire.
