Biophilia refers to the trend to surround ourselves with nature and natural materials in order to feel a connection with the outside world. This has come to the fore in interiors recently and will hopefully continue into the next decade as we commit to ditching plastics in favour of more sustainable materials.

Avoid high gloss artificial finishes and rather choose raw wooden surfaces on tables, chairs and kitchen cabinets. There is a  resurgence of rattan furniture that offers an inexpensive and lightweight alternative to synthetic products. We can make the choice to source antique and vintage furniture in all kinds of wood to add beauty and value to your interior rather than the cheap disposable pieces so popular in recent years.  We can also reuse and re-purpose what already exists which can only be a good thing for the planet as well as our homes.
