Collect things you love, that are authentic to you, and your house becomes your story.

Find Your Colour

In the same way that you know what colour looks best on you and what colours you love to wear, you can seek out the same for your home — find colours that look good and what colours you’ll love to come home to. Bring home fabric swatches, paint charts and even accessories and artwork on approval to give the colour a test run before you commit. It’s like going on a few “first dates” to find “the one”, but once you find it, you’ll know it’s right.

Define Your Mood

This is about what you want your room to feel like. Explore what materials, colours and furnishings will help you create your chosen mood. Rich colours, some metallic elements and plush textures will exude sophistication. Natural textures, casual cottons and canvases and neutral tones will come across as relaxed and informal. Bright colours, bold patterns, and shiny surfaces will create happy, confident energy.

Step Outside the Box

What if you find something you love, but it doesn’t necessarily match with your chosen decor? Bring it home and find a way to make it work, whether it’s a piece of fabric you can turn into an accent cushion to make a statement or an old framed print from a second-hand store that speaks to you and can be incorporated into a gallery wall. Seek out pieces that speak to you – be it their colour, style, theme, or texture. Those traits may be the decorating inspiration you’ve been looking for as the blueprint for your room.

Pictures: Your Choice

Turn a dull hallway or passage into a charming gallery of favourite pictures. Framed photos of loved ones or favourite holiday memories will work to not only please you but also create your unique, individual style. Artwork is a subjective choice that says so much about your character – so enjoy the self-indulgence of hanging those pieces that bring you joy.

Display Something Meaningful

This is your home so be tempted to show off something that tells your story. Is it a collection of teacups or some artefact sourced on travel to far off places? Take it out of storage and weave it into your decor.
