What is our design ethos? How does our business differ from others in this field?

Interior Design often becomes more about the distinctive style of the designer you engage than about your own individual tastes. There is a tendency to replicate the ‘look’ or fashion of any given time by following the lead of new home builders and designers. What emerges is a uniformity, which does a disservice to the diversity of interior design options available.

Through years of experience we have learned that the four hardest aspects of home decorating tend to be the following:
1. Finding a style that suits you and your lifestyle
2. Sourcing the right products and services
3. Prioritising what works best within the budget
4. Bringing all those aspects together to create the space you desire

We feel that our talent and ability lies in listening to the brief and understanding what you are wanting to achieve with any given project. It is imperative that your home reflect you and your tastes and style. We encourage our clients to explore the myriad of resources available online, in magazines and newspapers. The more ‘homework’ you do the better you are able to discern what works for you and what doesn’t. This process can be daunting and overwhelming, but it can also be exciting with some guidance and expertise. Through consultation we can distil what ‘look’ you’re trying to achieve and then make it happen.

It is recommended that you prioritise what is most important and consider a ‘staged’ approach to your project so that you can manage the budget and make informed decisions along the way. We can help you with this process and keep track of progress.

Our services include aspects like helping you choose the right paint colours and then repairing and painting the walls for you. We can assist in selecting the right pieces of furniture and artwork to complement what you already have and arrange delivery and placement.

Depending on budget, this may include used and up-cycled pieces for a unique and eclectic edge to your scheme. The floor coverings, window treatments and lighting are essential and we can advise on what works best and then make the selections with you. We can hang your pictures, remove old and install new built-in furniture, put up curtain rails and blinds.

The final stage of styling the room and achieving optimal arrangement of the pieces for both aesthetics and comfort is difficult for clients without experience. Let us do this with you and you will have the sense of a job ‘well done’ as you enjoy your newly created space.

All handyman services, big and small, are available through Shoestring Decorators. These include:  power washing of outdoor areas and driveways; gutter clearing; repairs to leaking taps and toilets; assembly of IKEA furniture; removal of old built-in units including kitchens; door and lock repairs; wall repair and painting; wall tiling; picture hanging; installation of curtain tracks and blinds; woodwork. Give us a call. We’ll take a look and give you a quote free of charge.
